VUDU has announced that they plan to offer a range of 4K Ultra movies in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos sound on their streaming service, initially limited to a few titles, but to be expanded if all goes well. They are launching with a bang too, by offering customers a free copy of Mad Max: Fury Road, to test drive the experience without risk.

One of the obstacles that have limited the use of Dolby Atmos on streaming platforms has been the instability of the system. Streaming services have been unable to provide a movie feed that included the additional complex sound because of limitations of network capabilities as well as the equipment needed to truly experience Dolby Atmos.

Most people have known the name Dolby for years, if not decades. They’ve been the leaders in surround sound and an immersive aural experience for a long time, and that hasn’t changed. They’re still at the leading edge of sound engineering for theaters, and for home theater systems.  Their latest offering, Atmos, is no different.

Atmos uses more speakers to create a sound experience that is  truly immersive and three dimensional. You can read more about Dolby Atmos here.

Of course, to take advantage of what may well be the single best and most immersive streaming movie experience, you will need the right designed home theater or media room. Dolby Atmos is at the cutting edge of the movie experience. It sets the benchmark for surround sound. VUDU might be jumping the gun by offering Dolby Atmos in steaming, but the trend suggests Dolby Atmos is hear to stay. If VUDU succeeds, other streaming services will be offering Dolby Atmos in the near future also.
