B&O Announces Latest Floor Standing Speaker: BeoLab 90

AHT Media Audio, Bang & Olufsen

The BeoLab 90 is the newest loudspeaker from Bang & Olufsen. and like most B&O speakers it reflects the audio house’s historical emphasis on visual beauty and design.

Each speaker has 18 drivers—seven tweeters, seven mids, and four woofers—powered by 14 ICEpower amps and four additional Class D amps. The combined max output of all those components is whooping 8,200 watts per channel. In addition, the BeoLab 90 sports an array of wired connections along with WiSA-compliant wireless connectivity, which uses the 5.2 – 5.8 GHz band for the transmission of uncompressed 24-bit wireless audio at sample rates of up to 96 kHz in.

SOUND CONTROL

Each 50-inch-tall cabinet is also capable of shooting sound in any direction—or even all directions at once. Using the “Beam Width Control,” the user can direct the sound to any particular sweet spot in the room, widening and tightening the sound field or opening it all the way up to present audio in all 360 degrees. Controlling a the speakers can be from a smartphone phone or as part of an integrated controlling solution.

FUNCTIONALITY

The loudspeaker driver positions and orientations are defined by the acoustical requirements. The placement of the electronics’ cooling fins were chosen to ensure that the rising heat could have no impact on the sound experience. The design is based on a complex aluminium cabinet totaling more than 65 kg, so the structure is rock solid. In a subtle contrast to the massiveness of the loudspeakers, the outer ‘skin’ is made of acoustically transparent fabric. The curved wooden base visually lifts up the large structure from the floor, making BeoLab 90 appear to float.

THE PERFECT B&O COMBINATION

For the BeoLab 90, there may be no more perfect source component than the Avant 4K Ultra HD television. In additionB&O Avantto being able to transmit hi-res audio signals for music and movies directly to the speakers, the Avant has the ability to adjust its orientation on a motorized stand, directing its image in any number of directions. The Avant and BeoLab 90 can be combined to direct both image and sound to any spot within a room, effectively making any spot the sweet spot, all with the press of a button.
