Basalte Sentido Touchpads: Euro Design Now in U.S. Markets

AHT Media Home Automation, Lighting Control

The simplistic, design friendly, Basalte touchpads for home automation are the current craze amongst AHT clients and designers. Based in Belgium, the company’s Sentido touchpads have been extremely popular in Europe for their ability to incorporate KNX, Europe’s prevailing home automation standard. They were not available for the U.S. market for the reason that KNX is rarely used. However, as of late 2015,  Sentido now integrates with both Lutron HomeWorks QS and Crestron via serial communications for U.S. markets.

About KNX Technology

KNX is the global standard for home automation. Its open source structure allows hundreds of international manufacturers to develop KNX compatible products that function within the same system. This offers an unprecedented flexibility. It also offers the freedom of choosing from a wide product range and an international network of KNX certified installers.

Control

Sentido touchpads can be programmed to control lights, temperature and motorized shades, and they can do this through several multi-touch points on their controllers, including the side bezels.

The entire surface of the design switches is touch-sensitive, creating a very easy and unique way of control.

Touching more than one surface at the same time turns on and off all the lights in a room using a general scene. Thanks to the integration with KNX home automation, this multi-touch function makes light control highly intuitive and user friendly.

Design, Materials and Function

Although Crestron and Lutron HomeWorks QS both have amazing keypads of their own, Basalte’s keypads bring a different design element. The sleek Euro-style surface-mount controllers come in a variety of form factors and materials – leather, different metals and more – for placement in all types of rooms.

The multi-color LED backlight can be used for status feedback or simply to light up Sentido and Enzo in the dark. Using the integrated RGB sequencer in combination with multi-touch allows controlling RGB lights in a very simple and intuitive way.
