Crestron’s reputation as a leader in the world of automation and control systems is well established, but it seems Crestron products are even further ahead of the curve than you might have thought. An announcement earlier this month that Crestron was among those names listed as a finalist for the CEDIA’s Manufacturers’ Excellence Award set a few people scratching their heads. What was the product?

The answer was revealed to be the zippily-titled ‘Crestron Pyng’.

Still none the wiser?

A few interested home automation gurus went ahead and dug a little deeper and discovered some clues in applications for both trademarks and patents. Crestron Pyng looks to be an all-new software product for a home automation platform, and one that’s obviously left a good impression on those lucky enough to have seen it.

A patent filed in July describes Pyng like this:

‘Computer software, namely, software framework for integrating management and control of audio, video, environmental, data, and security devices; software application for mobile devices, namely, a software framework for integrating management and control of audio, video, environmental, data, and security devices.’

Looking a little deeper, a related Crestron patent hints that what makes this product new and exciting is the introduction of a remote monitoring service that uses integrated radio frequency beacons to accurately locate the user within the home. Once the server gets the message where you’re locacted, the application can then be opened in response to your whereabouts. Pyng!

For a home automation customer that means a more intelligent and responsive system all round. It remains to be seen how this software will interact with the resident’s mobile device, but the potential is all there for a fully-synced system of personalized access to your home’s network. Let’s wait and see.
