Mixed Reality Will Replace Mobile Devices: Redefine Home Automation

AHT Media Digital Living, Future Technology, Home Automation, Home Automation Trends

We’ve all seen futuristic technologies in the movies and on TV. From the holographic screen projectors in Minority Report to the sarcastic Eye Phone on Futurama, way back to the Holodeck in Star Trek, pop culture has had a long term love affair with seemingly impossible technology.

However, while there are some movie tech predictions that have yet to materialize (hover boards anyone) for consumers, there are some, like “mixed reality” that will continue to expand over the next couple of decades.

Mixed reality will take virtual reality to the next level, allowing us to interact with content in ways that we can’t really fathom yet, but it’s likely to look a lot like what you’ve seen in the movies.

Mixed Reality and the Smart Home

Mixed reality is likely to have a profound impact on the smart home and security industries. Imagine waving a hand to raise or lower sound system output, or twisting a protected knob to raise or lower heating in your home. Imagine if you could see real time, three dimensional views of your home through your security system. This takes nanny cams to a whole new level.

Sure, all of these things are already possible in a current smart home, with the use of mobile devices, touch screens or a handheld remote, but what if you could interact in real time with your home without those devices? The possibilities are endless.

A Big Name Race

Just as mobile phone technology has exploded over the past few decades, expect mixed reality to do the same. Already, big names in the industry like Google and Apple are hiring specialists in this field.

Once it appears on the market, it’s likely to grow exponentially, as is the trend in the tech industry. It’s exciting to think that these options will be available soon, but don’t throw your devices away just yet. For now, you will still need to use touch screens and remotes to control your smart home.
