Bloomberg Tower: A New York State of Mind

The pulse of Midtown Manhattan beats with a rhythm of all it’s own. It’s comprised of hundreds of thousands if not millions of people that collectively equal a wave of energy that most cities find hard to rival. It can be exhilarating and at the same time exhausting. I find most people have a love hate relationship with the city. They love it, but there are times when they need to escape it.

So, where to go when an escape is needed? The Hamptons? Matha’s Vineyard? Maybe Up State New York? Why not above it!

Maybe that’s what one of AHT Residential’s clients thought when they purchased a penthouse on the 54th floor of the Bloomberg Tower in East Midtown New York a couple years back. I had the opportunity to visit the luxury penthouse last week for the first time. Needless to say, I was blown away. The cerebral 360 degree views were jaw dropping. Watching the city move silently from a birds eye view was almost as fantastic as the custom automation that is distributed throughout this amazing penthouse in the sky.

For this post, I thought it would be good to feature an unique aspect of this project, the integrated LED lighting. A complete gallery of this AHT custom project can be found at the AHT Projects link on the navigation bar above or by clicking here.

LED Automated Lights
What sets this automated system apart from many of the other automated systems we integrate is the LED light automation. A custom crestron G.U.I. was developed with 32 color swatches to match the desired LED color lighting that wraps around the ceiling and above the art. There is also LED lighting in the kitchen that can be controlled from the same user interface. I was in the apartment during the day, so I can only imagine what it is like at night. I’m sure even more stunning! Below are photo’s of the lighting that can better illustrate this custom feature.

If you read one of our first blog posts about Why Light Needs Darkness , you know we are big fans of designing with the light, and specifically LED lights. If you haven’t read it, there is a great video lecture by Rogier Van Der Heide that was presented by TED about the topic. It’s a must watch for any designer, specifically lighting designer.

We look forward to working along side more designers and clients that stretch the imagination and go beyond the norm.

Key Takeaway: With custom LED automated lighting, it’s as simple as a touch of a button to dramatically change the mood and look of any room.
