AHT Media All Posts, Digital Living, Entertainment

With so many streaming devices on the market, it can be difficult to decide which device will give your family the best entertainment experience possible. After all, if you are investing in a custom home theater or media room, you will want the best video play back. Two very popular devices in home entertainment are the Apple TV and Kaleidescape players. While the Apple TV is a tremendous value for the price, it lacks several desirable features that a  Kaleidescape system provides. Both media players can play videos, but that’s where the comparison ends.

Learn more about Kaleidescape from the designing spaces feature below.

Lets explore the two devices.

  • Apple TV compresses  video in order to use less bandwidth, Kaleidescape delivers your video in full Bluray-quality. On large screens, the difference between 40 Mbps and 9 Mbps becomes obvious in the picture quality.
  • You probably already have a large collection of DVDs and Bluerays. Only Kaleidescape can use your existing library as well as movies that you download from their service.
  • The Kaleidescape features a robust navigation system that stores your entire online library. It has a simple search function that narrows your movie options by selecting a specific actor, genre and other options.  The Apple TV forces you to search through many different streaming services to try to find what your desired movie or program.
  • The Kaleidescape stores all your content locally. This means if your internet connection is down you can still watch your movie collection. In addition, you do not need to worry about going over an arbitrary bandwidth cap from your internet service provider every time you watch a movie.

Both the Apple TV and Kaleidescape players have desirable features. In many cases, they are used in combination when we install a home entertainment system. Although the Kaleidescape system holds a higher price tag, it has many features that the Apple TV does not have.
