Crestron Systems Now Integrate Seamlessly with Sonos

Home automation technology is about simplifying controls and making it convenient for homeowners to operate many functions in their home with a touch a button. With this in mind, Crestron and Sonos have recently announced a groundbreaking new partnership. The new collaboration enables the Sonos app to be seamlessly integrated with Crestron home automation systems. Homeowners can now search and stream all of their favorite music on their Sonos home sound system right from Crestron touch screens, handheld remotes, keypads, and from the Crestron app on popular mobile devices.

Now, in addition to lights, shades, thermostats, theater systems, security and much more, homeowners can control Sonos products from Crestron touch screens, remotes, and keypads. They can view all of their Sonos favorites, play/pause the music, adjust the volume, view now playing information with artwork, and add or remove zones as they move about the house. What’s more, the Sonos home sound can be integrated into personalized Crestron scenes, such as “Welcome Home,” whereby a single tap of a touch screen, keypad, or personal device disarms the security system, turns on the kitchen and family room lights, adjusts the temperature to 72 degrees, and starts playing great music.

Nothing Compromised

For years, there have been work arounds to integrate Sonos with Crestron, but now it is official and better than ever. During this year’s CEDIA EXPO 2016 in Dallas, Crestron and Sonos will be demonstrating how the two applications work together to create a seamless user experience. Sonos will also be demonstrating integrations with Control 4, Lutron and iPort. However, Control4, Lutron and iPort can only deliver the fundamental Sonos controls. Crestron will allow users the full experience of Sonos which includes the ability to browse song lists, create presets and do everything else Sonos can do.url-2

From within the Crestron environment, users have full access to the Sonos app itself. “It’s a 100-percent pure Sonos experience from Crestron touchpanels,” Crestron CTO Fred Bargetzi tells CE Pro.

“It is Sonos,” says Bargetzi, who adds that Crestron is the only partner with this level of integration at this time. “When you run the Sonos app, you’re getting every single source.”

John Clancy, VP of Residential Systems at Crestron stated, “It is now easy to integrate Sonos on any scale, from a single room to an entire estate, into a custom Crestron home automation system. This includes all Sonos meta-data, artwork, control options, and the real-time feedback Crestron programmers need to ensure a spectacular user experience in every room.”

“Our goal at Sonos is to make it as easy as possible to enjoy all of your favorite music out loud,” said Andrew Vloyanetes, Sonos global business development manager. “Collaborating with Crestron allows us to work with true innovators in home automation to ensure Sonos works seamlessly as part of the ultimate smart home lifestyle.”
Sonos and Crestron will be demonstrating the new integrated solution at CEDIA EXPO 2016 in Dallas, booth #4721 from September 13th-17th.
