Crestron’s Proximity Beacon: Home Automation Technology

AHT Media Crestron, Crestron Installer, Crestron Programmer

$crestron-app-pinpointCrestron is continually inventing ways to simplify home automation. In 2010, Crestron was one of the first home automation companies to utilize the iPad, iPhone and iTouch as home automation control devices. Crestron’s adoption of the iPad and other mobile devices made it possible for homeowners to roam their house room by room to control the audio, video, lighting, motorized shades and any other sub-system that was connected to the Crestron system. There is little doubt that using mobile touchscreen devices was a home automation game changer. However, there was one problem. Roaming a home with an iPad room to room caused an extra layer of user input. For example, the homeowner would have to select which room they were in before controlling the settings. If a homeowner was in the dinning room and wanted to control the music and lighting, they would have to select the dinning room location on their mobile device before adjusting any room settings. If they didn’t select the dinning room, they would be controlling the input in another room of the house.

Stay Connected Automatically

Creston’s new PinPoint Proximity Detection Beacon keeps a mobile automation controller, like an ipad or iphone, automatically connected as the device is moved room to room. The iOS device will always know which room it is in, so when the device is in the dinning room and the music is turned on or the shades are lowered, the action will take place in the dinning room and no other room in the house. Individual preferences can also be configured for each individual’s iPad or iPhone.

What Makes This Possible

Up to 20 rooms in a home can be set up with one or more proximity detection beacons that detect a device upon entering using Bluetooth technology. This low-profile device is powered by a simple USB wall charger or any other type of USB charging port. The PinPoint setup app allows each beacon to recognize the device and then automatically displays the current room controls for that room on the device.

Whether you have an existing Crestron home automation system or your are looking to install a new home automation system, Crestron’s PinPoint Proximity Detection Beacons are a must have for anyone who wants to roam their house with an IOS mobile device.
