AIA Miami & AHT Global Offer Courses For Architects

AHT Media AHT Events, Crestron, Planar

AHT Global and the Miami Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) hosted continuing education courses last Tuesday evening,  September 16, 2014. The event took place at the Miami Center for Architecture and Design (MCAD).  Two of AHT Global’s long time partners presented courses. The first course was by Crestron’s Bill Hatcher who presented “Daylight Design with Shading Solutions”. The second presentation was by Planar’s Chris Lookenot who showcased the possibilities that video walls offer within architectural spaces. In addition to learning about these latest technologies, all architects received a one hour credit for each course.

Below is a short video that recaps the event.

Daylight Design with Shading Solutions Course

Crestron’s “Daylight Design with Shading Solutions” course offered insights into the best practices for optimizing daylight in a given space.  The objective of the course was to help architects understand the energy flow in the US and to recognize the energy divisions from within a building that can be made more efficient by the use of daylight harvesting and automated motorized shades. Bill Hatcher, the Crestron presenter, went on to explain the different fabric characteristics, and how they help reduce solar gain. He also touched on the process of automating a shading system to adjust to the sun throughout the day. Architects finished the course with a strong understanding of how motorized shades are convenient while also being energy efficient.

Architectural Video Wall Course

The objective of the video wall course was to explain the history of videos walls and where the technology is heading in the future. Chris Lookenot, the Planar presenter, also explained how to decode different spec sheets to learn the differences between display models. To wrap up the presentation, Chris spoke about the cost of video wall installations and showcased several unique case studies. Architects walked away from the course realizing the great creative flexibility that video walls present.
